ipsy

I just started my $10 a month subscription with ipsy yesterday. I can't wait to start receiving free makeup samples!

Every month subscribers receive five beauty products in a super cute makeup bag, or what ipsy calls your 'glam bag.' The majority of the samples are from very good brands like Urban Decay, Elizabeth Arden, OPI, Smashbox, and Mary Kay.

To sign up, you first take a beauty quiz. This allows ipsy to select products specifically for your skin tone, hair color/texture, and your personal style.

You have the ability to earn points by reviewing products on ipsy's website, or by having people subscribe through Facebook and Twitter. The points can be used to purchase beauty products.

I am anticipating my first shipment to arrive at my front door!

NYX Thalia

My search results on Pinterest for the perfect nude lipstick came back with a lot of MAC dupes. Could a $3.99 product really be as good as one that costs $16?
I had to check it out.

Within hours, I was at my local Ulta. With my phone in hand telling me which shade to pick, I grabbed NYX Thalia. As soon as I got to my car, I applied it...and fell in love!

I had to take a selfie to show off my new lipstick!

NYX's Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in Thalia is absolutely perfect. My lips felt moisturized and smooth. There was no fragrance or taste either.
I actually went to reapply a few hours later, but it wasn't necessary. The color held up exceptionally well.

The color is amazing! It is so hip and trendy, I feel like Kylie Jenner when I have it on, lol. I think it is the perfect fall/winter color, and I imagine it would look great on any skin tone. Thalia is a color that is so versatile, it could be worn day or night.

I am so pleased with NYX's product that I don't want to spend $16 on the MAC version to compare the two. I could use that money to buy four other shades of NYX lipsticks.

Kevin.Murphy Young Again Hair Wash & Rinse

I am only 27 so I don't think I have old looking hair, but I was given these products as samples so I had to try them. Actually, I am a free sample junkie so I was very excited!

In the shower, when I first applied the wash, I was worried. I didn't get as good of a lather as I do with my current shampoo. After I washed it out I put on the rinse to condition. The smell of both products was wonderful.

I got out of the shower, used my regular styling product to protect my hair from heat, and blow dried. The texture of my hair was exceptional! My hair felt so soft and it was frizz free. I never realized my hair looked old until I used Kevin Murphy's Young Again Wash & Rinse.

I went to dinner with my husband after using these products and the subtle smell lasted for hours. I was also surprised that they kept the frizz away, because it was rainy and ugly outside.

These products are not inexpensive. They range anywhere from $30 to $70 on Amazon. I am not sure how much they would cost from a salon. These products are well worth the price. Your hair will look & feel like you just had it professionally washed and styled.

Brow Bling Is A NO

Photo from Pinterest.com

Brow Bling is the new thing. This Hunger Games inspired trend just hit Ulta's brow bar and is available to everyone. It's not just a runway look (which I would be okay with.)
I even saw a girl on Facebook that is planning on incorporating rhinestone clad eyebrows into her wedding makeup.

Normally, I am receptive to new trends and even embrace them, but I just can't make myself like this one. It is so tacky!

I wasn't even aware of brow bling until I flipped through the Ulta circular yesterday. I immediately showed it to my husband and he commented that this new makeup trend was terrible. Generally, I think men are more attracted to a natural look.

Benefit Cosmetics is selling a set of 52 Swarovski crystals in two colors for $25. I am not sure how much it costs to have them applied at the brow bar. You can easily do it yourself by following the below steps & trick from Ulta's website...

Peel off black backing sheet. Use tweezers to pick up the self-adhesive crystals then place next to or directly onto brows. Press with finger to secure. Gently pull off crystals to remove. Adhesive on back of crystal is dermatologist tested.
Beauty tip: Bring the bling...a little or a lot.
Tip 1: Touch O' Bling: Apply 3 crystals, evenly spaced, along brow bone. Begin under brow arch and finish at end of brow.
Tip 2: Big-Time Bling: Select crystals and press directly onto brow hairs. Follow the shape of brow and place evenly throughout.
Trick 1: For repeat use, apply crystals with a tiny dab of lash glue.Trick 2: The glitzy tin doubles as a trinket box.

Christian Louboutin 'Rouge Louboutin - Starlight' Nail Colour

Photo from Nordstom.com

Yes the bottle is beautiful and it is encrusted with 1,500 two tone Strass crystals, but it is not worth $675. That is not a typo! Christian Louboutin's new nail polish is $675!

According to Nordstrom, "one coat gives a luxe, glossy color while two coats give the effect of 20 layers of traditional nail lacquer." An amazing claim, but only $30 of amazing in my mind. Thankfully it is long wearing and chip resistant. Oh, this polish is also gluten-free. I guess if you are crazy enough to pay $675 for a nail lacquer, you may also be crazy enough to eat it.

I can not justify spending this much for nail polish so I will not be testing it. You can buy the same product for $50 sans the fancy packaging, which is much more reasonable. This fancy item is more for the Beyonce's and Kim K's of the world.
